And they wore what… Oakland Zoo

IMG_4722The three of us made a resolution to enjoy our summer this year without breaking the bank. Lauren recently decided to take this summer off from work. Tammy’s youngest son(our baby brother) is getting ready for high school and we have all realized that time is moving quickly. We are trying to savor every drop of sunlight without upsetting the husbands or the budgets ????.
Our first adventure was to the Oakland Zoo. For those of you that haven’t had an opportunity to visit the East Bay. Oakland is not all riots and urban sprawl. In fact driving only an hour we arrived at a picturesque little zoo in the hills.
As all the mommas out there know a day out requires some advanced planning and packing. We brought some essentials such as this modern burlap “cactus” swaddle, babyganics sunscreen, neat cheeks, doTerra essential oil mix insect repellent (one word Zika ????) and some Annie’s organic fruit snacks. We put all these plus some diapers and wipes into a convenient and cute backpack that happened to go adorable with Tammy’s outfit, thank you World Market!IMG_4756
We wanted to dress for cooler morning and a warm afternoon in something we could be comfortable in while walking up hills and toting children. Ashley wore our black Cori joggers, we our obsessed with these bad boys and our sold out Houston denim top #ifyoudidntbuyitwearesadforyou! Tammy wore our Harlow moto pant in black with a striped swing tank top from old navy with a denim jacket (a must for every closet) and of course one of our new summer fedoras #sundamageandwrinkles. Lauren wore our Joanna embroidered loose fit top,we are loving the detail of this shirt she paired it with her white gap shorts and converse.
The littles wore some adorable small shops. This “man cub” tee shirt from loved by Hannah and Eli was perfect for the setting. Liam wore a Roni and Ky personalized tee and distressed denim by two by two blues. Ben was wearing his Rags to Raches romper (as seen on shark tank) and the perfect sun hat for your littles from George HatsIMG_4783
We took our three littles and “Uncle Shane”. We wanted to go in one car to avoid having to spend extra on gas. So we didn’t have room for all the kids and all the strollers. Luckily we discovered that we could rent a double stroller for only $7. Our two older kiddos loved sitting next to each other. The price of admission was $17.25 ages 15 and up and $13.25 ages 2-14. Under 2 is free, so we got two littles in at no cost. Parking was $9 but with three families in one car it was very economical.IMG_4747
Some of the kids favorite exhibits were the tigers and the elephants. However, the very favorite was “Ting-Ting” the sun bear! We went on a Thursday which wasn’t very crowded except for the school groups. There were a lot of field trips being end of the week and end of the school year. So maybe going a month earlier or a earlier in the week would have produced a less crowded experience.
Overall, we had a great time. Remember to budget a little extra money if you want to take the kids on the train or some of the other kid friendly rides they have available. And stop by the children’s area complete with petting zoo!
